The Coven started in November 2015 when two friends invited all the gay women they knew to meet them at the bar (without the bar’s permission). The rest is herstory. Since then, the Coven has become a staple of the DC queer community. We now host two monthly dance parties and frequently collaborate with some of the best and brightest in the DMV LGBTQIA+ and creative communities to make DC a little more extra. Past collaborations include:

  • 9:30 Club

  • Brightest Young Things

  • Busboys and Poets

  • Factory Girls

  • Jaywalking Productions

  • The Kennedy Center for The Performing Arts

  • Makers Lab

  • MimSol Entertainment

  • Nu Androids

  • The Out DC

  • SoulCycle

  • Studio Theatre

  • This Free Life

  • Washington Spirit

  • ZAMI

Though our witchy dance parties are our bread and butter (they regularly draw crowds of 300...thank you for coming!), we’re also committed to nurturing the queer community. Whether that’s through our commitment to showcasing diverse DC talent, reaching out beyond the gay women’s community, supporting others’ events, or soliciting feedback from others, we’re there for it. The Coven’s had a chance to give to some great causes, such as:

  • Central Union Mission

  • HIPS

  • Orlando Pulse Victims Fund

  • Support The Girls

  • Planned Parenthood

  • American Civil Liberties Union

  • SMYAL

  • DC Rape Crisis Center

  • Direct Relief -  Puerto Rico Hurricane Efforts

  • Casa Ruby

Bottom line: we love you. No matter who you are, who you love, or how you identify, we want to party with you. Or sit down and discuss a book. We’re just happy you came.
